DSA Board Meeting

21 June Sunday 2009 

President Robert Cook called the meeting to order at 7:20 PM.

Vice President Richard Bonheyo, Secretary Nancy Rarus, Treasurer Joseph Rose, Board Members Jim Potter, Barbara Schmidt and Ronald Nomeland were in attendance.  The DSSA 2009 committee members also were present with Bill Moran. Gerald “Bummy” Burstein, the Parliamentarian was also present along with Keith Thompson and Bob Scribner, co-chairs of the Nomination Committee.

President Cook announced that we would be wearing the vests with the purple side shown; that Ernie Hahn wanted July 15 to be the deadline for the New Horizons and that bidders for the 2013 DSA Conference will make their presentation in the order of when  their applications arrived. The order is as follows: San Francisco, Houston, Baltimore and New York City.

Carol Beers informed Joe Rose that she would be giving him the diskette which includes all the registered people and their mailing addresses promptly at the end of the conference.

Jim Potter passed out handouts which all are updated versions of various guidelines. He also made 10 copies of the amendments as proposed specifically for any of the visually impaired registrants. 

Alfred Sonnenstrahl brought us up to date about what was happening with advertisements in the New Horizon, and about some things that have fallen through the cracks.

After some discussion, it was decided that the bidding presentations would be limited to five minutes.

Treasurer Rose announced that DSA’s balance is $67,315.22.  Clarence Russell and Bill Stifter were the auditors. He also announced that the budget for the past year was set at $45,000.00 and we are under budget.

DSA 2009 Chair Bill Moran and Attorney Dale Boan took turns explaining all the problems the committee experienced and asked that DSA waive the monies due DSA from registrants who paid membership fees.

A closed session took place.

Motions made and carried during the closed session are as follows.

  1. DSA2009 will stick to the MOU regarding paying DSA the dues collected.
  2. Five hundred dollars ($500) from the Clear Blue account will be donated to DCARA to assist with expenses connected to Senior Citizen activities.
  3. DSA Relief Fund monies will be awarded to DSA2009 Committee. As of June 19, 2009, the balance was $8002.00. Upon conclusion of the conference, any further monies collected by the 27th will be forwarded to the DSA2009 account.
